Ashley Benjamin, BS, CVT, VTS-SAIM: Blood typing, cross matching and transfusion reactions
This lecture will cover blood typing and crossmatching techniques, indications for transfusion therapy, recognition and management of transfusion reactions, and the veterinary technician's role in safe blood product administration and patient monitoring.

Skills Lab (3hrs CE)
Rotate between:
- Station 1: Veterinary Dentistry Skills
- Michelle Badeaux, B.S., RVT, CHT-V
- Topics include proper patient positioning, dental ergonomics, instrument selection and handling, hand and ultrasonic scaling techniques, subgingival cleaning concepts, polishing techniques, workflow efficiency, tooth brushing instruction, and client education regarding preventive dental care.
- Station 2: Oncology Procedures and Tissue Sampling
- Bryan Amato, RVT
- Participants will practice proper techniques for collecting tissue samples and other diagnostic procedures commonly utilized in oncology patients.
- Station 3: CPR Procedures and Team Roles
- Ian Grant, RVT
- Participants will review veterinary CPR procedures with an emphasis on understanding team roles, communication, role assignment, and coordinated response during emergency situations.
Enrollment in the Skills Lab is limited to 18 participants to ensure an optimal hands-on
learning experience. Registration for the Skills Lab will close on September 11, 2026,
or when capacity is reached,
whichever occurs first. Registration for the webinar and in-person lecture sessions
will remain open through the event dates, space permitting.
All in-person activities will be held at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Detailed parking instructions, building access information, and check-in procedures will be emailed to registered participants during the week prior to the event.
